Dr. Whitehead is a director at the Center for Functional GI and Motility Disorders and a professor of medicine at University of North Carolina. He received his PhD from the University of Chicago in clinical psychology and entered the field of gastroenterology shortly after. His focuses for research include gastrointestinal motility disorders, fecal incontinence, constipation, rectal pain, intestinal pseudo-obstruction, gastroparesis, dysphagia. Dr. Whitehead also serves as a fellow for the American College of Gastroenterology and was the co-founder and past chair of Functional Brain-Gut Research Group (FBG).
